Mind Matters

This will be where I link my posts on mental health, anxiety, depression, and neurodiversity. If anything resonates with you and you feel you might benefit from reaching out please do. Asking for help or admitting that something isn’t quite right is brave and there are lots of resources out there that can be accessed.

Around 2005/2006 I was first diagnosed with anxiety and depression and in 2011 I had what I consider a mental breakdown. Sometime last year (2020, age 50) I was diagnosed with ADHD and Autism. It seems lots of women are being diagnosed later in life because these diversities present differently in girls, and girls/women are (or were) pretty much conditioned to “fit in” so we learned to mask any differences in our behaviour. It was when I realised that my anxiety wasn’t always “thought based” that I told my psychologist I thought something else was going on. She screened me for various things and ADHD, ASD and Sensory Processing Disorders were the things that stood out.

Please note that these are my experiences/traits and thoughts. I don’t speak for anyone else and not everyone that is autistic or has anxiety/depression/ADHD will have the same experiences, etc.
